People buy from faces they recognise. One phone video can tell them who you are, who you help and why.
Think about the last time you hired someone you had never met. A plumber, a designer, a lawyer. Before you said yes, you probably looked for something to tell you who this person was. A photo. A few lines. Maybe a video.
Now flip it.

When
a
stranger
finds
your
business,
what
do
they
see?
Often
it
is
a
logo,
a
list
of
services
and
a
phone
number.
Nothing
there
tells
them
who
is
behind
it.
This week's job is small. Record one video, about 60 seconds, on your phone. That is the whole task.
Why a face helps
A logo is easy to ignore. A face is harder to ignore. When we see and hear a person, we start to form a feeling about them quickly. Do they seem clear? Kind? Do they know what they are talking about?
You cannot fake that feeling with design. A short video lets a stranger meet you before they ever message you. By the time they do, part of the trust is already built.
It also saves you time. If people already know what you do and who you help, fewer of your sales calls start from zero.
The three-part script
Keep it simple. Three parts, about 20 seconds each.
Who I am. Your name, what you do, and where. One sentence. For example: "Hi, I'm Sam. I run a small bakery that makes wedding cakes in Leeds."
Who I help. Name the person you are talking to, not a whole market. "I help couples who want a cake that looks great and does not taste like cardboard."
Why I do it. One honest reason. It does not have to be dramatic. "I started because I could never find a cake I actually wanted to eat." Only say something that is true for you.
Then finish with one next step: "If that sounds like you, send me a message."
Sam and the bakery are made up, just to show the shape. Use your own words.

Illustrative timingMake it easy to record
Do not wait for good equipment. A modern phone is enough. A few small things help more than gear.
- Face a window so the light falls on your face.
- Hold the phone at eye level, not looking up at you.
- Put it somewhere quiet. Bad sound is often worse than bad video.
- Speak to one person, as if you are telling a friend what you do.
Do three takes. Pick the most natural one, not the most perfect one. Add captions if your app has them, since many people watch without sound.
A few things to avoid
Do not read from a script word for word. It sounds stiff. Learn the three ideas and say them in your own words. Do not list every service you offer, because a stranger will remember one thing at most. And do not apologise at the start ("Sorry, I hate being on camera"). Just begin.
Where to put it
Post it where people already look for you: the top of your website, your profile page, and a pinned post on the social app you use most. Send the link to the next person who asks, "So what do you do?"
You do not need to go viral. This video is not for strangers scrolling past. It is for the person who is already half interested and wants a reason to trust you.
What I take from this
Trust starts before the first conversation. A short, honest video can do some of that work for you. The rule I keep from this: say who you are, who you help and why, and then stop.
Try this week: Write your three sentences on a sticky note today. Record three takes tomorrow. Post one by Friday.
